one night sitting in a bar the band on stage sang this song. I had never heard it before, and being a singer/guitar player, I asked around to find the name of the song and what astist came out with it.
So I found out it was George Jones, so I go to the mall and bought it the next week. I discovered the singer that night had a lot of the words wrong lol but hey, when I learned it and I played it, i did a really good to do my best.
A couple years later when I had my own band it was a big crowd pleaser when I sang it.. I will say this, it is the greatest song I've ever heard. They call him the living legend and I agree!!!!!!!
My Daddy raised all three of us girls on good ol' country music, it was always a part of our everyday living. We all sing along with him and I play the guitar, although he plays ALOT better :0)
My Daddy has not been lucky in love or marriage(s) - He had one true love though and her name was Eileen. The marriage did not work but to this day, although married to another, I know he still loves her and always will.
I know when we lay my beloved Daddy to rest, I will have this song in my head.....and heart. It will remind me of that love he has and also the love of music he bestowed apon all of us girls...we range in age from 19-38 and ALL of us love C&W music, preferably from the 50s-70s era.
Great song, believe it was done back in the late 60's by George Jones, perhaps another artists or two. It was covered in the 90's by Sawyer Brown maybe, sorry not real sure on the artist, just sure it's a great song and an upbeat country/rocker with great lyrics!
