Singing Sweet Home Alabama All Summer Long
Really if you haven't heard Werewolves in London and Sweet Home Alabama then you need to go on youtube and listen to the originals.
Then you'll understand.

This homage rocks me. by: HaystackCaldoon
I don't think of this as a ripoff at all. Kid Rock makes it painfully clear that this is an homage by naming the original song in his work.
Appropriation has a long history in all forms of art and I rather like the way this particular bit turned out, and its blatant honesty as well... I'm amazed I hadn't ever heard this song before 7 August 2009, but I'm glad I did.
A homage that's not up to the original's standards is still a tribute to the greatness of the original artist. This song has a really nice feel to it, along the lines of Everclear's "AM Radio", which I also adore.

All Summer Long in N Michigan by: Nancy
I agree with Rob - says 1979 for me, too, and in Northern Michigan, too ... I intend to play it at our 30-yr HS reunion in Michigan this year!

I thought it was a cover. by: Anonymous
The first time I heard Kid Rock's "All Summer" Long" (If you can really call it his), I thought he was doing a cover of "Sweet Home Alabama". This pissed me off, of course, since such a talentless hack was no doubt going to butcher the song and probably hadn't even understood that the original was made as a joke in the first place.
But then he started singing, and I realized that he had just ripped off Lynard Skynard. That pissed me off even more.
What an asshole...That's not paying tribute to the artist. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Totally Annoying by: Julie
Totally annoying listening to it, as it is a blatant rip-off of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" (1974).

Jesus Palameno, we've got bankers taking us for 700 billion and you're fretting about what??
P.S. If you're wondering how Kid did it legally, browse this link at cdbaby> cdbaby.net/dd?f=8 or paste the words [legal cover song] into google.

Werewolves of Detroit by: ZevonFan
It reminds me of "Cowboy" by Kid Rock, which was so much a lift from "Two Turntables and a microphone" by Beck I was astonished he didn't get sued over that.
Unwashed and unethical is not the same as talented.
Huey Lewis destroyed Ray Parker Jr's career for a less blatant ripoff of "Want a New Drug" called "Ghostbusters"...
Me, I like the original, "Werewolves of London"

Been doing this for years by: ToddDengler
Okay, I've been a Warren Zevon fan for years, and vowed never to cover one of his songs until i saw him live. man, what a great show -- just him and his piano / guitar. Phil Cody opened for him.
After that, I worked "Werewolves" into my set. I always opened with the "Sweet Home" intro riff since it was just me and my guitar and a room full of smart-asses requesting Skynyrd.
I know I'm no Kid Rock (a blessing?) but this song, while fun and quirky, is a million miles from original.
That people are buying this song is a tribute only to Zevon. God bless the Excitable Boy.

love it by: Anonymous
with a reply to jim, because of your comment i purchased rock n roll jesus, now go stab yourself in the eye like you said
i dont see the problem with people covering songs because i see it as a tribute unless they are just copying it verbatim to make a quick bit of cash or to get some popularity.

RIP OFF by: Anonymous
Warren Zevon's estate should sue Kid Rock. Every time I hear this I get angry. I hear that familiar riff and get elated then crash on those lackluster lyrics.

Hey ,,, the best by: Leo From Canada
Kid Rock was on TV the other night, and sang that song.. and let me tell you man.. He was good.
He also had these people come in and extend the song, they were the original singer and players of the Original song, Sweet home Alabama... respect to all of you.. Leo

Sweet memories by: Rob
While not a Kid Rock fan I have to admit I love the song. The lyrics say 1989.....but its a great reminder of 1979 for me as well. I captured for 3 minutes the care free time that was my teens. Art in any form is to inspire, motivate, change opinion and yes sometime just make you smile wistfully. As far as ripping off, stealing, or taking other peoples work.....has anyone invented a riff, lick, or chord in the last 30 yrs? I left my 47 yr old life for 3 minutes and smiled. Well done.

morons by: Anonymous
You people are morons. The song is catchy, fun, and all in all a good song. It is sang by Kid Rock, and I for one, never thought I'd ever say I liked a Kid Rock song, but I guess he proved me wrong.

Disappointing ripoff by: Chris
Glad to see I'm not the only who noticed the piano riff stolen from "Werewolves of London" (oh, excuse me, "sampled" from it). I actually liked the original "Sweet Home Alabama", but I can't hear any of that melody in Kid Rock's song. If you can call it a song, when he's more talking than singing...

Thank you to everyone who likes this song by: Jim
You are now intimately involved in killing everything that has ever been good or inspiring about making new music.
Congratulations on supporting folks like Kid Rock who have absolutely no ability or desire to pump creative juice into the music that they create for the world.
I would rather stab myself repeatedly in the eye socket than support Kid Rock's flaming crusade to bastardize and destroy good music.

Crusin' along country roads with my baby and I hear the lead in to Werewolves of London. I am all ready to let out a howl... aarrrrrooooOOOO! And what the heck? Lynyrd Skynyrd singing Werewolves in Alabama? No, just a lazy Kid Rock... Hubby likes the song tho' so I am sure I will here lots of it!

Where's the Creativity? by: Teauteau
Poor Kid Rock. So hopped up on Hep-C and all the drugs and booze, he can't come up with his own song so he has to take a little Werewolves of London and Sweet Home. I can't stand the song but I like the two from which he plagierized. OH, was it an accident? Coincidence? Yeah, I'll bet. Sounds like a lazy, quick, easy way to make some more money to feed all those addictions. I switch the station every time I here this lousy rip-off.
