I'll Fly Away

Words to Gospel Songs - Brumley Gospel

I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To a home where joy shall never end
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away

Albert Brumley, Sr. was 26 when he sung the words to this gospel song "I'll Fly Away". This tune was accepted by the Hartford Music Company in 1932 and it has been recorded thousands of times.

Thoughts from Mr. Brumley...

(Quote) He believed in God-given talent, but he didn't believe in direct inspiration. "I've had so many people come to me and say, 'I've got a song here that the Lord gave me,' and I've always wondered "why the Lord didn't finish 'em up." he said.

Using a conservative estimate, there are over 700 songs written by Mr. Brumley, and Lord know how many his son, Albert Brumley Jr., has made.

Note: Albert Jr. released a tribute CD, "I'll Fly Away", that has his father's tunes... it was presented in late 2003. Highly recommended.

Below is a picture of the Brumley family from the songbook named The Best of Albert E Brumley. Now, I call this a song book because it has the lyrics and sheet music, however, it shows bunches of pictures and newspaper articles, also. The songbook I found was from 1966... I got to see a snapshot of Mr. Brumley's life eleven years before he died.

His son Tom Brumley played the steel guitar. Tom was a member of Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, and passed away February 4, 2009 after suffering a heart attack.
