YOUR THE ONLY GOOD THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME - JIM REEVES

As it turned out it was a typical country song ending I would suppose. I met my wife to be in a pub while out with my dad back about 1985. It was one of the Old pubs that you would call a good drinking house and it also had and still has an old juke box that belonged to the publican. You were invited to put on your favourite records, the old 45's and they would change them every month or so. Well my Dads favourite songs of all time were "MY OWN PECULIAR WAY - Pery Como Version and also the mentioned song "YOUR THE ONLY GOOD THING" a Cindy Walker song that always made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The words were so lovely and true in a lot of relationships. Well my dad had put this on the juke box and my wife to be Sue walked into the pub with friends whilst this played away. As it happened after a while we got together and had twenty wonderful years together and that song will always mean so much to me as it did to my wife and dad. My dad died in 96 and is always remembered, he was a great guy. My wife passed on in 2005 from cancer at the age of 40. Taken far too early. That day seemed like the end of my life and now some five years on I can still never get to grips with the fact she is no longer a part of my life. I still play the song and though in a way it is now punishment as it always brings a tear to my eye, it also beings back to me some of the most cherished moments I will ever have. Me I'm 54 and have a lot of living to do. Memories will stay with me that is for sure and whatever the future holds it will never better the past. "We have our ups and downs like all lovers do,but you know in your heart that I worship you. So don't ever think of setting me free for your the only good thing thats happened to me."
